Aaron Morris ASBK – Rd 3
14-16 June 2013
Queensland Raceways – Willowbank QLD 4306
Qualifying A difficult meeting overall with a technical problem causing difficulties throughout practice and qualifying – relegating the pole sitter from Phillip Island Round 1 to 16th grid position. The problem was found after qualifying and Morris was 5th fastest in morning warmup. With the non progressive grid Morris knew that starts would be important. The race distances were 16 laps which was a good thing when coming from that far back.
Race 1 Morris found himself in 12th position on lap 1 but already 3.5 seconds behind the leaders. By lap 5 he was up to 9th and steadily gaining on the riders in front of him. With an out-braking maneuver into turn 5 Morris moved up to 8th position with six laps to go. By the flag with two more out-braking passes Morris had made his way up to 6th and some important points were salvaged.
Race 2 Was more of the same although Morris only just avoided an incident in turn 1 on the first lap. By the end of lap 1, in 11th position, Morris was mindful that points in the championship were the goal, and to avoid any trouble. By lap 10 and in 8th position Morris was timing his moves into the braking areas and with 4 laps to go was 7th. When the checkered flag came out Morris had moved up to 5th and some more important Championship points.
The focus now is the double header in Sydney to close in on the Championship lead. Thanks to Powerplus Racing Fuels.
