It’s taken a few weeks to finalise but on Friday 27th April Paul Caslick and Beau Ralston from CaslickCoaching headed west on the long drive out to Broken Hill.
Local competitor Logan Coombe was instrumental in organising the event and quoted “It’s been 10 years since we had anybody visit this area for coaching, the last coach was Stephen Gall so to have Paul Caslick take the long drive out here has all the participants really pumped for a great day”.
Friday afternoon had all the riders meet Caslick and Ralston at the circuit for a briefing on what to expect and from this all the riders were looking forward to Saturday mornings start.
The day began with another briefing and all formalities signed off, then the riders headed to the infield of the Speedway circuit. During the day riders picked up improvement in confidence, advanced braking and traction control, cornering, starts, line selection, planning, fitness and nutrition. Some riders committed to motocross enjoyed having Beau Ralston assist them with cornering, advanced braking and traction techniques, flowing, line selection, body position, jumping and bike set up. All the riders participated in the skills development process that also included body position, weight distribution and throttle control. With this discipline having fences as safety for spectators, we also included “how to ride off a fence” at the conclusion of this coaching day. So many riders are injured or worse from colliding with fences and the participants really appreciated the demonstration and time to develop their own confidence.
It was indeed a huge, successful weekend for the riders. Here is what a few riders thought of the event:
Logan Coombe – “Glad to have met one of the most inspiring motivated people in life this weekend. Learnt so much. Glad Broken Hill got the best of the best yesterday, long time coming, roughly 10 years since anyone has been here to coach. Was a mission but glad I did it and everyone enjoyed it, happy days”.
Justin Pascoe – “It was an impossible mission made possible by Paul Caslick. I came into that day open minded and left that day railing the outside, turning right which was never a thing on my check list that I thought I’d ever check off, able to slide the bike with great throttle and brake control and understand the fundamentals of the sport, things that would have never crossed my mind. Beau Ralston helped me with my bike setup, turning the berms without braking, cornering while under power and braking at the same time and line change. You both left my mind raped! And I take my hat off to you both for this. Please keep doing what you are doing”.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Beau Ralston for joining me on such short notice for the trip. Healing injuries prevented beau from competing at Round 2 of the MX Nationals, to have him assist and share his knowledge for these riders is priceless. Thanks to the Broken Hill Club and Logan Coombe for having CaslickCoaching visit Broken Hill and look forward to our return.
