Unfortunately the race to get the Torana ready was over on the weekend when some of the engine components that should have been a simple fit required machining and time we just don’t have, so I have decided to instead bring my 1966 Impala Cruiser and see what speed it can do.
Not the ride I was planning but better for everyone, better to be safe than sorry, Adam and the Snowy Mountains 1000 team have worked too hard to have an under prepped car cause a drama.
I originally planned to overhaul the car with a new fibreglass front and rebuild the engine but once we started the strip down we realised we had bit off more than we could chew – deciding to upgrade the front suspension/chassis to lose about 150lb’s. It made sense at the time to do it as the new front needed to be fitted and the old chassis was not really suited to it, but looking at it now it was what probably stopped us being ready.
Although on the bright side I will now be able to help Leah with her Cancer Council Raffle as the Chev will not need much effort.
The Torana will now be done as time permits, hopefully for the last round of Sydney Dragway Championship on the 15th December, and will definitely be at next year’s Snowy Mountains 1000.
Thank you to everyone for your support and interest in the Torana (and Will Wallace for your tyres), we will update the website on the Torana’s progress as we get it finished.
