PANKHURST AND MARKULIN FINISH 1ST AND 3RD IN THE AMCA COUNTRY CUP SERIES WITH POWERPLUS

Terry Pankhurst has clinched the Countplus MBT AMCA National Country Cup after the series’ fifth and final round was last month fought out, and won by Darrell Kime, at Narrabri’s Newton Park Speedway in North Western NSW.

Kime claimed round-honours with the feature race victory, but it wasn’t enough to stop Pankhurst from claiming the series crown.

The action in the heat races was dominated by the battle between Spano Gutierrez and eventual series winner Pankhurst, who raced wheel-to-wheel throughout, but it was Kime who came out on top.

After securing pole-position for the feature race, Kime led the pack through the opening turn in front of his son, Raymond Kime, with Gutierrez and series’ leader Pankhurst close behind.

While Darrell Kime went about constructing a lead, his son, Raymond, began to come under serious pressure from Gutierrez, who was relentless in his efforts to claim second spot. It was all for nothing, though; a deflating tire for Gutierrez took him out of contention and forcing him to retire.
The misfortune of Gutierrez opened the door for Pankhurst, and on the final lap he attempted to dive down the inside of Raymond Kime, which saw Kime spin and Pankhurst relegated to the rear of the field for being deemed the cause of the incident.

Darrell Kime went on to win the feature race comfortably despite some late car troubles, with his son Raymond awarded second place. Outgoing Series Champion Scott Brydie pipped Peter Markulin on the line for the final podium position, while John Markulin and Daniel Gesell completed the finishers.

Despite the disappointment of the final round, it wasn’t enough to deny Pankhurst of the series spoils. Gutierrez and Peter Markulin finshed as runners-up behind Pankhurst in the final series point standings.
