Track Championship – Round 2
Sydney Dragway, NSW – April 13th 2013
Round 2 of the Track Championship was a new era for us at SSS Racing. The decision to race in Super Sedan was made by our team as we had picked up on performance by 2 tenths consistently by running Powerplus 102+. Our first run being a 10.75 secs at 125 mph the second a 10.77 secs at 126 mph, very consistent runs indeed.
We made a few carby and tune up changes for our 3rd qualifier chasing optimum performance from our LJ Torana, as fate had it we lined up against the Powerplus HB Torana of Martin Stevenson. Game on, 2 red lights and off we went, we ran a personal best of 10.64 secs at 126 mph and Martin ran another consistent 10.32 secs at 132 mph. The HB Torana seems to be a consistent package also.
Our 1st round win in Super Sedan was a great one, racing the LJ Torana of Frank Palumbo. A close race, Frank broke out and our reaction time was a tidy one which forced Frank to chase us. 2nd round a sluggy take off for the LJ, punched 2nd gear and bang our motor let go. It’s unfortunate but these things happen in drag racing. With the Nitro Champs a few weeks away it means a few late nights for us to get the Torana up and running. The short story on the motor is, a rod out the side of the block and a chewed up piston going through the whole motor, so not a lot to salvage here.
Many thanks to Martin Stevenson from all of us at SSS Racing, Martin was the first guy to offer assistance on a back up vehicle for us at the Nitros as we are running equal 4th in the championship. See you all at the Nitro Champs, we cant wait!
