After destroying the gear vendor’s overdrive at Gunnedah in December I decided to put on 33 inch tyres (were 29″) with no overdrive, which is the same top end speed.
Sounded easy in 3 months but the amount of cutting required was more than expected. Take out Christmas and being busy at work then before you know it I am taking it off the hoist onto the trailer on Friday night, heading to Sydney Dragway Round 1 untested.
Before I could run it I asked Brendon to meet me at the track to set up 4 link and missed the first qualifier. I went out for the second qualifier not knowing what to expect and it went all over the track.
After speaking with Brendon I decided to up the tyre pressure from 8 to 10.5 PSI for the first elimination round. I had a guess with my Dial-In which unfortunately was a tenth off, but the Torana felt much better so the tyre pressure was the problem.
Mitch had a .05 red light again in Round 1, but we have a plan to hopefully cure his red lights…
So Round 2 can only get better for us!
Sunday morning I got up at 4am to go to Gunnedah for another day racing and also to try using the trans-brake.
Well I tried but after only ever using a foot brake I did struggle to get it sorted but the car had the best traction it’s ever had at Gunnedah so the big tyres were a good move.
Also I ran a PB at Gunnedah of 6.74 so there is better times ahead when I get the transbrake sorted.
Bring on the Day of the Drags this Sunday.
Check out some GoPro footage below of my poor attempt using the transbrake and also some photos of most of the cars at Gunnedah on Sunday.
