X Champs – Sydney Dragway
2nd to 4th May 2014
The weather on Friday and Sunday was good but Saturday was freezing and would have kept spectators away unfortunately. The cold weather on Saturday made traction a bit sketchy as I found out in Round 2 which eventually caused an early end to racing. All in all Sydney Dragway again did a good job with this event, we are lucky to have such a good venue and well organised staff.
The Torana had a much improved outing. Since TCS Round 2 we found the magneto was breaking down under load (now in for repair) so we put a Mallory dual point dizzy in. With the injection set up now sorted thanks to Al, it ran its best time to date of 9.77 secs – leaving from 2000RPM.
It was turning the tyres in all 3 runs on Friday and 2 on Saturday so getting traction sorted and learning to use transbrake will lead to better times I’m sure.
Gunnedah in 2 weeks will give me a chance to practice with the transbrake ready for TCS Round 3 the following week.
Thanks to Dan at High Roller Energy for his support and also for lending us his buggy over the weekend. Check out the bit of footage/pics below from the X Champs.
