GUNNEDAH RACING 10-11 NOV

Awoke at 4am to finish loading the truck and headed off around 5am. Al took his GT40 and we had the Torana. Before we even got to the end of the freeway we were looking forward to Muswellbrook for our usual breakfast stop.

Made it to Gunnedah by 9:30am, registered and we were raring to go! Unfortunately the timing gear was not raring to go… After trying to sort out the problem for an hour or so it was decided to grudge race on armdrop starts. Everyone had a good session with no dramas (except for the millions of flies) and we were hoping for some racing on Sunday. Al had a perfect run first time out in the GT40 so he left it at that, but we had 4 good solid runs in the Torana, FINALLY it is being nice to us.

After putting the cars to rest we decided to go to the speedway after dinner. ‘Terry’s Pizza’ is a favourite stop and it was good as always. The speedway had a nice crowd and I was looking forward to it as I haven’t been to the speedway since the early 80’s at Granville. A cold southerly breeze had all of us thinking it’s time to go after only 15mins (we must be getting soft). After 1/2 hour we were in the car warming up!

We got to the track on Sunday morning to find out the timing gear had software dramas and we were given the option of armdrop grudge racing or a credit for next time. We wanted to have a few runs in the Torana and Brad could then also get some video footage for this post – hopefully we got everyone, if not next time we will.

Loaded up the cars and headed home around 1:30pm. Despite the track’s timing gear problems it was another enjoyable and relaxing weekend away. Also I have to mention the steak sandwiches available on Saturday and Sunday, they would have to be the best I have ever had, such tender steak, excellent job!

Check out the video footage/pictures by Brad and we look forward to our next trip to Gunnedah.
