MITCH & JOSH: ROUND 5/6 AORC

Mitch & Josh Brierley Race Report
10th & 11th August
Round 5 & 6 of the Yamaha Australian Offroad Championship

Round 5 & 6 of the NSW Sprint and XCountry series has been run on the weekend. Wagga Wagga MCC had a spectacular setting on private property east of Tarcutta, NSW. Rolling hills and tight, technical tracks made for challenging conditions which suited Josh and Mitch perfectly.

The first round on Saturday was a sprint format doing 10 sprints over the day on a challenging 5 km loop. The technical tracks suited the boys riding and they set some great times in the first few loops and were never close to all day. Very close racing between Mitch and Josh all day had the lead change several times. Once times were added up, after 51 minutes of racing there was only 0.015 of a second between them with Josh 1st and Mitch 2nd in the J1 class. The combined times also had them beat the J2a class they are in next year and both in the top 4 for the J2b class they will be in for the 2 years after that!! Some of their best racing yet.

The second round on Sunday was a Cross Country running for 1hr30mins. Again a challenging 6-8km loop through rough terrain was set out. Mitch and Josh took an early lead after 2 laps and were never challenged setting a cracking pace. Again the lead changed 3 times between the 2 as Mitch had a slow leaking front tyre and had to pit to pump it up and Josh passed for the lead. Mitch went out on the chase for the final 2 laps. Josh suffered a rear flat tyre 1km from the finishing line with Mitch getting past to take the win. Josh holding on for second. I think we better look at some Mousse Tubes?

A big thanks to Bikebiz Kawasaki, Keith and Dan for their support again. The KX 85’s again went without a problem. Pirelli tyres, Motul oils, Hiflofiltro filters and RK Chains all made the day trouble free. Suspension work by Teknik Motorsport at Penrith has definitely payed off with the boys very happy with the bikes. Thanks to Nick at Teknik. Powerplus 99 fuel has been great for engine performance and reliability. The clean burn will definitely improve wear and tear levels on the engines. Thanks Martin at Powerplus NSW.

We look forward to the next rounds of the Australian Offroad Championships in Bendigo this weekend with the boys hoping for a continued 1,2 finish to cement their positions in the Yamaha Australian Offroad Champonships.

Thanks.
