OUR GUNNEDAH WEEKEND

TDRA Inc. had organised another weekend of Drag Racing on 11th & 12th August at Gunnedah Airport (1/8th Mile).

So we headed off for Gunnedah at around 4am to get there before scrutineering closed at 10am. After our regular McDonalds brekky stop at Muswellbrook we arrived at 9:30am.

Al took his newly completed 1981 Porsche 930 Turbo and we had the Panelvan. After we’d only had 2 runs on the Saturday there was an announcement that the Royal Flying Doctor Service needed to land in half an hour so we needed to pack up and get off the runway! Everyone co-operated and helped each other which saw the plane land and pick-up their patient without a problem. The drags were complete for the day and we were off to the RSL to watch the footy.

In Sunday qualifying the Panelvan was consistent 8.0’s and my reaction times were good, however luckily I got through Round 1 despite a .16 reaction time. Then unfotunately lost Round 2 to the eventual winner with another poor reaction of .15 to a .05, maybe next time!

Al’s porsche ran okay but it is not meant for Drag Racing and he had trouble being consistent; leaving at 3000RPM it was a ‘dog’ but leaving at 5000RPM it just spun the tyres.

All in all it was another good relaxing weekend and we look forward to next time on November 10th & 11th .

Thanks TDRA
