RACE REPORT: 1ST AND 2ND PLACE FOR MITCH AND JOSH

Yamaha Australian Offroad Championship
25th MAY – Round 5, 26th MAY – Round 6
Hedley VIC 3967

Howdy All,

Another big weekend has passed with great results for Mitch and Josh. The 5th and 6th rounds of the AORC were held at Hedley, South Gippsland, Victoria. Corner Inlet Motorcycling Club had set up a great weekends riding in some sandy conditions. The tracks were in prime condition after some rain early in the week. But they soon deteriorated after 280+ riders were competing. One loop of approximately 15 kms was used Saturday for the Xcountry. Sunday, the loop was split into 2 to create 2 loops of about 7kms for the sprints. Needless to say the tracks deteriorated rapidly with deep sand whoops and rutted corners being a challenging combination.

Round 3 on Saturday was a 2 hour Xcountry with the boys finding their pace and lines through the difficult sections early. The hard work and training in some sand with Nik Sullivan payed off though, with Mitch and Josh hitting the front of their class early and never looked back. Mitch taking 1st and Josh 2nd.

Round 4 on Sunday was 6 sprint loops of the second half of the previous days course. The track had deteriorated significantly after the Pros race Saturday afternoon with the sand whoops at Finke looking an easier option to ride. The boys both stayed strong on the bike through the day and after some close timed laps between them, 0.5 seconds on one lap they ended the day with Mitch in 1st again and Josh in 2nd.

We look forward to the next round of the AORC in SA at the end of June and the Hattah desert race the following weekend. The boys are keen to keep training and hope to be at the top at both events.

Thanks.
Mitch #524 and Josh #523
